Finally the much awaited project of metro connectivity between Rishikesh-Haridwar and Rishikesh-Dehradun is on the roll and is estimated to be fully functional by the year 2021 (I phase) just before the beginning of the Kumbh Mela which takes place in Rishikesh-Haridwar region. Uttarakhand’s cabinet minister of Housing & Urban development Madan Kaushik talked about the possibilities of the project with the officials of Delhi metro railway corporation on Tuesday and later on it was clear that a detailed project report would be made to finalise things about various attributes like design, budget, land allocations, time graph etc. It is said that I phase of the project is expected to be completed by 2021 and then the work for the II phase will be started (Rishikesh-Dehradun).
As far as we know the first metro station in Rishikesh city is to be made near Chandrabhaga bridge which will be further connected to different stations at adequate distances and the final destination would be the metro station at Jwalapur, Haridwar. The metro rail will run through all the important city junctions like Koyal Grand, IDPL, Shyampur, Railwala, Har Ki Pauri etc and Nepali Farm ahead of Shyampur will be the switch junction where the rail for dehradun city will commence.
Rishikesh – Haridwar Metro Project: At a glance
- 14 hectare area will be required for the major depot at IDPL Rishikesh.
- The track will be laid through the whole city covering the major regions as stations.
- To avoid the traffic havoc, metro stations will be laid at a distance of 1 to 1.5 km from each other.
- The metro rail speed will be optimum ranging around 35 to 40km/hr.
Apart from these preparations, this project can also be seen as a major boost for tourism in Rishikesh, as conveyance is a major problem till now due to shrink national highways and heavy traffic volume and with the advent of this metro line the burden on roads will be surely less. It will also cater hundreds of jobs opportunities for the local talent in the city. So to sum up everything, this project is surely a boon to the city and we are hopeful that government implements things efficiently to make all this a reality by 2021.
